Looking to head out as a single, but crave some companionship and adventure? Try playing a round with man's / woman's best friend.
If you've never played as a twosome with your pup, or seen others do this, it may sound crazy. While not embraced everywhere, it's more popular and allowed than you may think.
Golf.com's Sean Zak had a nice write up a few years back on 9 keys for playing golf with your dog. The why's and the how's.
If you can find a course that allows it, and use those same techniques we favor when trying to score your solo spot, then getting out for a round w/ a dog by your side is well worth your shot.
Some popular courses that do allow dogs include:
-
Pinehurst Resort (Pinehurst, North Carolina)
-
Half Moon Bay Golf Links (Half Moon Bay, California)
-
Mackinac Island Golf Club (Mackinac Island, Michigan)
-
Wintonbury Hills Golf Course (Bloomfield, Connecticut)
-
Oakhurst Links (White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia)
-
Broadmoor Golf Club (Colorado Springs, Colorado)
-
West Seattle Golf Course (Seattle, Washington)
-
Crystal Lake Golf Club (Lakeville, Minnesota)
-
Bethpage State Park Golf Courses (Farmingdale, New York)
-
The Preserve at Verdae (Greenville, South Carolina)
Heck, even St. Andrews lets the dogs out on the course to run around, though sadly not on playing days. Enjoy another great write up from Sean Zak on The Old Course becoming a dog park, here.
P.S. - if you can't tell, we're big fans of Sean's writing... if you are too, be sure to check out his new book Searching in St. Andrews out now.
